Our doctors and staff at Indian Land Animal Hospital are dedicated to providing the best care for your furry family member. Since 1986, we have performed routine visits, medical, surgical, and dental services to keep your pet happy and well. As animal lovers ourselves, we understand the bond between you and your pet, so we work diligently to help your furry friend live a long, healthy life. Our facility has all the modern amenities our patients need to keep them comfortable while reducing anxiety. We aim to make our practice a place where your pet isn’t afraid to visit, and that’s accredited to our wonderful staff’s friendly, compassionate demeanor.
The Indian Land Animal Hospital Story
Indian Land Animal Hospital was opened in 1986 by Dr. Carol Dietz-Rimar to serve the Indian Land, Fort Mill and surrounding communities. After her tragic death in 2007, the clinic closed for a period time and then reopened by Dr. Lisa C. Shaw in January of 2008 to continue to offer compassionate and affordable care.
Meet Our Team
Dr. Lisa C. Shaw, D.V.M., C.C.R.P.
Dr. Shaw graduated from North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. She was a visiting instructor in the Anatomy Department at NCSU-CVM from 1996-1998. She moved to the Charlotte area in 2001 and practiced at Sharon Lakes Animal Hospital. She then spent three years at Carolina Veterinary Specialists on the Emergency and Critical Care service. Dr. Shaw was certified in Canine Rehabilitation in 2004 at the University of Tennessee and opened Carolina Canine Rehab Clinic in November 2004. Dr. Shaw and her husband, David J. Grindstaff, also own and operate Continental Boarding in southwest Charlotte. Dr. Shaw’s free time is spent with David, her two children, Nic and Reese and their five dogs. Special interests include pain management, rehabilitation, geriatrics, and soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Heather Wyss, BVSc
Dr. Wyss was born and raised in Long Island, New York. She and her family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1992. She attended college at North Carolina State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in Zoology. From there she joined the United States Air Force as a Communications Officer from 1998 to 2002. She went on from there to pursue her love for animals by attending the Veterinary College at Massey University in New Zealand. She graduated in 2006 and moved back to Charlotte. Dr. Wyss spends her free time with her husband, hiking, mountain biking, and loving on her dog (Horace) and cat (Hooligan).
Dr. Katherine Haefele, DVM
Dr. Katherine Haefele was born in Stuttgart, Germany. She was raised here in the US, in South Carolina. From a very young age, she knew that working with animals was her passion in life. Dr. Haefele attended undergraduate school at Clemson University. Go TIGERS! She then went on to earn her doctorate at Mississippi State. Hail STATE! Following Vet School, she did an internship with Carolinas Veterinary Specialist. With all the time she was spending preparing to become a Veterinarian , she was able to fit in time to marry her best friend whom also attended Clemson University. When Dr. Haefele has down time, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband, loving on her three Labrador Retrievers, Wyatt, Shep and Jake, and her precious kitty, Gus Gus. You can also find her snow skiing, boating, hiking and painting.
Ross, Veterinary Assistant/Office Manager
Ross was born and raised in Matthews, NC. She received her bachelorette degree from Western Carolina University. She is now a resident of Fort Mill, SC. Ross has been a Veterinary Assistant since 2003 and joined Indian Land Animal Hospital in 2009. Working with animals is her passion in life. She shares her passion with her son, Keiran. Ross is always willing to foster kittens when needed. Ross and Keiran share their home with three precious cats, Myrtle, Mae and Mikey. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her son, reading, puzzling, hiking and washing her cares away at the beach.
Nancy, Veterinary Assistant
Nancy was born and raised in New York, NY. She has been a Veterinary Assistant for over 30 years in the Charlotte area, including as a surgical assistant at Carolinas Veterinary Specialist. Nancy joined Indian Land Animal Hospital in February 2008. She has experience in all aspects of the hospital, with special interest and training in surgery, anesthesia and dog behavior. Nancy enjoys spending time with her husband, Jamie, her grandson, Lucas, photography, dog training (agility and obedience), and watching Carolina Panthers football. Her furry crew consists of three dogs, Ace, Harley, and Baby Nya, two cats, Tommy and Turbo and her bird, Blue.
Elizabeth, Veterinary Assistant
Elizabeth was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. From a very young age she has fostered a love of animals of all kinds and has enjoyed working with pets in the veterinary setting for many years now. Her areas of special interest include surgery, dental care, and rehabilitation therapy.
Marla, Veterinary Assistant
Marla was born and raised in Lancaster, SC. She has been a Veterinary assistant since 2011. She has worked as a Veterinary assistant in Charlotte and Lancaster areas, including Carolinas Veterinary Specialist in Matthews, NC. Marla joined Indian Land Animal Hospital in November 2016. She enjoys spending time with her husband, her family, and her four-legged family consisting of three dogs, Kira, Karma and Taura, one cat, Mora, a crested Gecko, Rajada, and a Bearded Dragon, Hadyn.
Meghan, Veterinary Assistant
Meghan was born and raised in the Charlotte, NC. Growing up as a daughter of a veterinarian, she spent her childhood with a zoo of pets. It wasn’t long before Meghan decided to pursue her own career in veterinary medicine. Meghan graduated from UNC Wilmington in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and she hopes to attend NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in the near future. In her free time, Meghan enjoys working with and training assistance dogs, volunteering at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue, and playing with her cat, Gabby and her dog, Jasmine.
Kaylin, Registered Veterinary Technician
Kaylin was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. Her love for animals started at a very young age. She enjoyed taking care of neighbor’s animals and competition equestrian riding. She started working at a veterinary office in high school and continued working there while she was in veterinary technician school at Gaston College. Kaylin graduated in 2000 and joined Indian Land Animal Hospital as a licensed Veterinary Technician. Kaylin enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends and her sweet dog, Lacey.
Cheri comes to our facility with 12 yrs. experience working at Animal Emergency and Trauma Center in Charlotte. Cheri worked with Dr. Shaw during her ER doctor days and Dr. Wyss during her technician days while she attended veterinary school. Cheri lives in Charlotte with her husband, two daughters, four dogs, five cats and a turtle! (Yes, Cheri is crazy) When not taking care of the four-legged babies, Cheri loves watching her daughters play softball, horseback ride and go on scuba adventures!
Megan has had a love for animals and a desire to pursue a career working with them all her life. It became a reality in 2010 when she she graduated grooming academy. She enjoys coming home and being greeted by her own loving pack at the door every day. In her spare time she enjoys participating in outdoor activities with her family.
Stephanie is originally from Wilkes County, NC. She started working in the emergency veterinary field in 2012 after years in the human medical field. She found a new love of animals and their owners. She has a son and a daughter. In her free time and when not on a baseball field cheering on her son, she loves weekend trips away, shopping and binge watching Netflix.
Stacy was born and raised in Fort Mill, SC. She has been working in the Veterinary field since 2006. Stacy has a real passion for helping animals. In her down time you can find Stacy fishing or spending time with her yellow Labrador retriever, Ms. Aiden Harper.
Aimee is a native of Indian Land, SC. She started working in the Veterinary field in 2014. Aimee has a true passion for animals. She shares her home with her husband, three children and her two fur babies, Tessa and Daisy. When she has free time, she enjoys reading, coloring pictures with her kids, playing video games with her husband and cuddling on the couch with her pups watching a good movie.
